Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi on Sunday called for extending the US-Iran ceasefire and continuing negotiations to halt the war in the Gulf, even as US President Donald Trump said the American Navy will blockade the Strait of Hormuz and accused Tehran of extorting the world.
Albusaidi’s remarks came after Iran and the United States failed to strike a deal to end the war during direct talks in Islamabad on Saturday, which marked the first direct interaction between Washington and Tehran in decades. US Vice President JD Vance left Pakistan after the talks collapsed and warned that Washington had made Tehran its “final and best offer" for a deal.
“When I met Vice President Vance just hours before the war began, I formed an impression that both he and the President had a genuine and strong preference to avoid the entanglements of war," said Badr Albusaidi on X.
“So I urge that the ceasefire be extended and talks continue. Success may require everyone to make painful concessions, but this is nothing as compared to the pain of failure and war," he added.

Trump Threatens Iran Again
His request came after Trump announced that the US Navy will begin blocking ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, citing Iran’s “unyielding" stance on its nuclear ambitions during recent peace talks in Islamabad.
Trump also accused Iran of going back on its assurance to keep the key international waterway open. He claimed the situation had caused disruption and uncertainty for global shipping, adding that reports of mines in the waters had further raised fears among ship owners.

“Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz. At some point, we will reach an “ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT" basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen," he said, accusing Tehran of “world extortion."
“I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas," he said. “Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!"
Trump also said the US Army was “locked and loaded" to “finish" what little is left of Iran at an “appropriate moment."
US, Iranian Delegations Leave Pakistan
Meanwhile, both US and Iranian delegations have departed Pakistan after the talks failed, denting any hopes of further negotiations. Key differences between the two sides arose on controlling the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Iran’s Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who led his country’s delegation along with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, blamed the US for not winning Iran’s trust despite his team offering “forward-looking initiatives".
“The US has understood Iran’s logic and principles and it’s time for them to decide whether they can earn our trust or not," he said. Meanwhile, Vance said Iran had chosen not to accept American terms, including not to build nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday that he was ready to help mediate efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East, the Kremlin said.
