A BJP leader was caught on camera brutally thrashing a woman and her son with a slipper in broad daylight in Bilaspur town near Dankaur, Uttar Pradesh. The shocking video went viral on Monday, triggering widespread outrage and forcing the police to swing into action.

The accused, Atiq Ahmed, who serves as the General Secretary of BJP’s Minority Morcha in Kasna Mandal, has been arrested, police confirmed.

According to officials, the victim, a woman originally from Assam, and her son have been living in a makeshift hut on Atiq Ahmed’s land in Bilaspur. The two earn their livelihood by collecting scrap. Police said the assault was linked to a dispute over a loan that the woman had taken from the BJP leader.

Sources revealed that Atiq Ahmed, who also lends money on interest, allegedly attacked the mother and son after they failed to repay the borrowed amount within the agreed time. In the viral clip, he is seen wearing a black t-shirt and lower, abusing the duo, and hitting them repeatedly with a slipper.

However, after the video spread rapidly on social media and reached senior officials, the police took cognisance of the matter and arrested the accused.

A case has been filed against Atiq Ahmed under Section 151 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said that after his arrest, efforts were made to contact the victim woman and her son, but they were not present at their hut at the time.

Police sources also stated that further investigation is underway, and legal action will follow as per the findings.
