The vehicle was marked with political slogans linked to Iran’s past, including the message: “No shah, no regime. USA: Don’t repeat 1953, no mullah," referencing the US-backed coup in 1953 that toppled Iran’s then prime minister and reinstated the shah.
Local media reported that police detained a man at the scene after removing him from the truck. As he was taken away, some protesters attempted to assault him, using flagpoles, before officers stepped in to prevent further violence.
The truck sustained visible damage, with its windshield smashed and glass scattered across the street. The attached trailer appeared empty, its rear door left open as police inspected the vehicle and the surrounding area.
Authorities said they have not yet determined whether the driver deliberately drove into the crowd or acted out of panic amid the protest.
The rally was organised to show solidarity with protesters in Iran, where US-based activists claim more than 500 people have been killed in a violent crackdown by authorities.
