One year old operated upon for rare hereditary vision problem

A team of doctors at Vasan Eye Care Hospital here has successfully performed a rare zonular cataract surgery on a one-year-old patient who was suffering from a hereditary vision problem.

Addressing presspersons in Hubballi on Thursday, ophthalmologist at Vasan Eye Care Hubballi Hospital Anjana Kuri said that the baby girl’s father from Vijayapura also had congenital cataracts in childhood and underwent surgery and both have regained their sight.

The doctor said that before the surgery, the infant underwent a comprehensive health examination appropriate for children.

During the surgery, Moda lens was removed, while a foldable acrylic intraocular lens was implanted, she said.

Dr. Kuri said that parents should not ignore eye problems. People should understand that instead of thinking that yellow eye is a sign of bad luck, they should seek medical advice.

She was assisted by doctors Preethi B.S., Shruthika and Veena during the surgery.
