Pastorova, Kulaye live up to expectations in Goa River Marathon

Vasco: Petra Pastorova of the Czech Republic and Nilesh Kulaye of Ratnagiri won the 42km marathon at the 15th Goa River Marathon on Sunday.While, Pastorova, six-times national marathon champion in the Czech Republic, clocked 3:04:29 hrs, Kulaye needed 2:48:52 hrs for the distance.Close to 6,000 runners and 28% women participated in this edition which had the theme of world peace.The 32km race, also known as the 20 miler, saw some intense competition with Sapna Patel of UP winning the women’s category, stopping the clock at 2:30:14 hrs, while Prathamesh Paramkar of Belgavi took 1:48:35 hrs for the first place in the men’s category.The 32km race saw the most intense competition on Sunday, with the just a few seconds separating the top two male runners.

Sachin Poojary of Udupi finished in 1:49:12 hrs. Hariram Maurya of Wasind, Maharashtra was third with a timing of 2:04:44 hrs.The 21km event saw Rutuja Patil of Goa (1:31:25 hrs) and Humen Senapati of Assam (1:11:05) winning the race. Rohini Patil of Kolhapur (40:15 mins) and Aniket Shingare of Vasco (30:38 mins) took the top positions in the 10km race.Results: 10k women: 1 Rohini Patil (Maharashtra) 40:15 minutes; 2 Farheen Firdose (Karnataka) 40:34; 3 Nikita Marle (Maharashtra) 42:54.

Men: Aniket Shingare (Goa) 30:38; 2 Pruthviraj Kamble (Goa) 30:51; 3 Mohit Kumar Patel (Uttar Pradesh) 30:56. 21km: women: 1 Rutuja Patil (Goa) 1:31:25 hrs; 2 Shreya Patil (Maharashtra) 1:34:08; 3 Ghazi Tanna (Goa) 1:37:42. Men: 1 Humen Senapati (Assam) 1:11:05 hrs; 2 Omkar Baikar (Maharashtra) 1:11:50; 3 Harichandra Velip (Goa) 1:21:40.

20-miler men: 1 Prathamesh Parmkar (Karnataka ) 1:48:35 hrs; 2 Sachin Poojary (Karnataka) 1:49:12; 3 Hariram Maurya (Maharashtra) 2:04:44.
