Indian Railways luggage limit, Vande Bharat Sleeper: India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, running between Howrah and Guwahati, is set to commence services this week. Developed by BEML using ICF technology, the semi-high-speed train is expected to enhance rail connectivity between West Bengal and Assam. The 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper can accommodate 823 passengers and includes 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches and one AC first-class coach.

Speaking to Indianexpress.com, Shibram Majhi, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Eastern Railway said that there has been no change in the luggage limit for the Vande Bharat Sleeper train till now. Thus, the passengers will have to follow the existing baggage rules while travelling. Here’s a look at the Indian Railways luggage rules:
According to Indian Railways, passengers are allowed a free luggage allowance based on their travel class, with a marginal extra allowance permitted on payment. However, carrying baggage beyond the permissible limit attracts penalty charges as per railway rules.
As the Howrah-Guwahati Vande Bharat Sleeper train has only three classes of accommodation: First AC, Second AC and Third AC, the luggage allowance varies accordingly. The passengers travelling in First AC are permitted to carry up to 70 kg of luggage, while those in Second AC and Third AC can carry up to 50 kg and 40 kg, respectively.
Indian Railways permits free luggage as per travel class, with a marginal allowance available on payment. Luggage beyond this limit attracts penalty.
