India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, which will operate between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya) will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. Visuals have emerged of the train ahead of its official flag-off by the Prime Minister.
The launch marks a significant milestone in Indian Railways’ modernisation drive, with the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat aimed at enhancing long-distance rail travel with improved comfort and efficiency.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train will comprise 11 coaches, including five 3 AC, four 2 AC and one 1 AC coach. It will offer a total of 823 berths, with 611 in 3 AC, 188 in 2 AC and 24 in 1 AC.
The train features ergonomically designed berths with enhanced cushioning and automatic vestibule doors for smoother movement between coaches.
It is equipped with improved suspension to ensure a more comfortable ride and lower noise levels, along with safety systems such as the Kavach automatic train protection, an emergency talk-back facility, and disinfectant technology to maintain high standards of sanitation.
According to the officials, only confirmed tickets will be issued, which is expected to greatly reduce waiting lists. The RAC system will not be allowed on this train. This means passengers will not have to share berths or travel on side-lower seats, ensuring a more comfortable journey for all travellers.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper will be open only to the general public. There will be no VIP or emergency quota on this train. Senior and top railway officials will also not be allowed to travel using railway passes. Only passengers with confirmed tickets will be permitted to board.
