Genesect in the anime (Image via TPC)
Genesect is back in five-star raids in January 2026 during the Precious Paths season. Trainers will see two versions this time: Burn Drive and Chill Drive. The difference comes down to Techno Blast, which changes type based on the drive Genesect is holding.Even with its strong attack stat, Genesect is not a difficult raid boss if you prepare properly. Its Bug/Steel typing leaves it doubly weak to Fire-type moves, which makes this one of the more efficient Tier 5 raids for small groups and experienced players.
Raid stats and CP range of Genesect in Pokemon GO

Burn Drive Genesect uses Fire-type Techno Blast and can also have Flamethrower. Chill Drive Genesect switches to Ice-type Techno Blast and Ice Beam. Burn Drive shows a red cannon, while Chill Drive has a light blue and white cannon. Both versions use the same set of fast moves, such as Fury Cutter, Metal Claw, and Magnet Bomb, along with charged moves like X-Scissor.
Even with that move pool, Genesect has a hard time doing much damage against strong Fire-type attackers.

Raid setup and battle approach for Genesect in Pokemon GO
Two well-built teams are usually enough to clear the raid, while three players make it more comfortable and consistent. Solo clears are possible in Sunny weather if your counters are fully powered.
Try to avoid Rainy or Snowy conditions, since those help Genesect more than you. Stick with Fire Spin to build energy quickly, and dodge Techno Blast when it’s about to land. If you’re raiding with a large group, splitting into smaller lobbies will help everyone get better rewards.
Catch tips after the Genesect raid
Use the Circle Lock method with Golden Razz Berries to land Excellent throws. Shiny Genesect is an automatic catch, so Pinap Berries are safe to use. Expect long battles and plan ahead with Max Potions and Revives if you intend to run multiple raids for candy and XL candy.
