The police seized 11 kg of ganja from three passengers traveling on the Ernakulam Express at Ongole Railway Station on Monday (January 5, 2026). The police stated that two of the accused are from Tamil Nadu and one from Kerala.
According to the police, extensive inspections were being conducted in several express trains at Ongole Railway Station with an aim to eradicate marijuana and drugs, under the supervision of Prakasam District Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju.
Women Police Station CI Sudhakar and SIs, Special Party, EAGLE Team, Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel participated in these inspection.
With the help of the police sniffer dog ‘Roxy’, suspicious parcels, passengers’ bags and several other items in the express train coaches, platforms, and parcel centres in the railway station were thoroughly inspected by the police teams.
During inspection of train No. 18189 – Ernakulam Express going towards Kavali, the police seized around 11 kg of ganja from three passengers. They were arrested and handed over to the GRP police for further investigation..
The arrested persons were identified as G. Sandil Kumar (50 year) and B. Murugan (28 year), both from Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, while Blessin (20 year) from Katteppana village of Idukki district in Kerala State.
The police officials have warned that legal action will be taken against people transporting, selling, or using ganja or other intoxicants. They have asked the people to share any information about ganja and drugs by calling toll-free number 1972, dial 112 or on Whatsapp number 9121102266.
