Posters, 3 OGWs, Cleric To Doctors, 2.9 Kg Explosives: How J&K Cops Busted Faridabad Terror Module
A day after the Jammu and Kashmir Police (J&K) Police helped bust a ‘white collar terror module‘ in Faridabad, News18 has obtained exclusive details of how the operation was carried out.
The busting of the module earlier in the day led to eight arrests and recovery of 2,563 kg of explosives and 350 kg of ammonium nitrate. Hours later, a powerful explosion in a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station rocked the national capital, leading to at least 12 deaths. Experts say the busting of the module limited the scale of the Delhi tragedy.
Posters led police to 3 OGWs, a cleric
The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s investigation began after posters supporting militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) surfaced in Srinagar on October 27.
Three overground workers, who had a history of being stone pelters, were then picked up:
1. Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, a resident of Nowgam, Srinagar
2. Yasir-ul-Ashraf, a resident of Nowgam, Srinagar
3. Maqsood Ahmad Dar alias Shahid, a resident of Nowgam, Srinagar
The next to be arrested was a cleric in Shopian, Maulvi Irfan Ahmad, whose questioning gave vital leads.

Doctors’ link and the white collar terror module
The next arrest was of Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, from Qazigund moved to Saharanpur. He had just left his job at GMC Anantnag. Police discovered an AK rifle in his locker. Following sustained interrogation, Adeel revealed the plot.
Then came the detention of a man from Gandarbal, Zameer Ahangar, who was associated with the Shopian cleric.
This led the J&K Police to Dr Muzammil, making the entire chain clear. This further led to the arrest of Dr Muzammil Ganaie in Faridabad. A native of Koil in J-K’s Pulwama, Muzammil was a doctor working at Al Falah University at Dhauj, around 45 km from Delhi.
Dr Umar was absconding when search for him started. Police also looked for him in Pulwama but couldn’t find him.
The group, intially considered small, used to raise funds through professionals — doctors, engineers, etc and academicians. They used to tell them they have to use the money for social or charitable causes. The group used to identify people who could be radicalised and initiate communication and later recruit them to ranks. They used those to raise funds, arranging logistics, and later procure arms/ammunition and material for preparing IEDs.
How the explosives were found
A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the two rooms rented by Dr Muzammil in Faridabad. The rooms were owned by the cleric.
The police recovered 350 kg of ammonium nitrate, weapons and bomb-making components and an AK-47 rifle from one of the rented rooms. The recovery also included 20 timers, detonator components and ammunition. Additionally, security teams found circuit systems, IED-making materials, batteries, remote triggers, timers and chemicals.
The security forces recovered 2,563 kg of suspected explosives from the second property in Haryana’s Faridabad. The seizure was made in Fatehpur Taga village, around 4 km from the Dhauj area.
A day after the Red Fort blast
A day after 2,900 kg of explosives and inflammable material was recovered from two rented rooms of a Kashmiri doctor in Faridabad, an extensive combing and search operation was being conducted in parts of the district on Tuesday. Preliminary probe into the blast has also suggested links to the alleged terror module uncovered in Faridabad.
Police on Tuesday said a team is camping at the Al Falah University, where the Kashmiri doctor lived for the past three-and-a-half years, and are questioning staff and doctors at the varsity here, a senior police officer told PTI.
Several police personnel are conducting search in the Dhauj police station area, he said. Investigation so far revealed that a cleric here who was detained by police revealed that he had rented out his room to an autorickshaw driver who then gave it to Dr Muzammil for keeping “luggage" in the room.
