The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the suicide of a farmer in Attappady. Deputy Collector S. Sreejith will investigate and submit a report to District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty.

Krishnaswamy, 53, a farmer at Kavundikkal, Attappady, reportedly ended his life after he was refused an ownership certificate (thandaperu certificate) for his farmland from the village.

The inquiry will look into if the village officials had deliberately delayed or withheld the certificate Krishnaswamy asked for.

Krishnaswamy’s family has raised allegations of corruption against Village officials. His wife Kamalam said that he ended his life in desperation after requesting village officials for the ownership certificate for over six months in vain.

Meanwhile, BJP and Congress took out protest marches to Agali Village Office.
