Leaders of various progressive organisations have decided to felicitate the International Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq and her translator Deepa Bhasthi in Hassan on June 9.
In a press conference in Hassan on Monday, Dharmesh, district president of CITU, said that Banu Musthaq had represented the voice of the voiceless and downtrodden in her stories. She won the prestigious award for her short stories, and it was a proud moment for Karnataka and Hassan, her hometown.
“We will hold a programme to felicitate them at Hasanamba Kalakshetra in the city. Writer and prominent voice of Bandaya Literature Baraguru Ramachandrappa will take part in the programme. Writer H.S. Anupama will deliver a talk on Banu Mushtaq’s writings,” he said.
The organisers have invited elected representatives, including Lok Sabha member Shreyas M. Patel, legislator Swaroop Prakash, Deputy Commissioner C. Sathyabhama, Superintendent of Police Mohammed Sujeetha, and other officers for the programme, which will begin with a procession, he added.
Hassan Red Cross Society chairperson H.P. Mohan, organising secretary of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Prakash, journalist Ravi Nakalgud, DSS leader Krishnadas, and others were present at the press conference.
