PU girls outperform boys in UG exams, clinch 21 gold medals

Patna: Patna University (PU) girls once again outperformed their male counterparts in the 2025 undergraduate (UG) examinations. Excelling across the three-year degree courses (2022–25), they not only performed well but also secured top ranks in most honours subjects across the faculties of humanities, social sciences, science, commerce, education, law, and fine arts.According to a provisional list of gold medallists of 2025 announced by the PU examination department, as many as 21 out of 35 gold medals would be awarded to the girls for securing maximum marks in the both conventional and vocational courses at the undergraduate level.Magadh Mahila College (MMC) has created a record of sorts by sending in maximum number of toppers. The toppers of as many as 17 honours courses are from MMC.

Patna College, the oldest institution of higher education in the state, has sent in seven toppers followed by four from Patna Science College and three from B N College. There is one topper each from Vanijya Mahavidyalay, Women’s Training College and College of Arts and Crafts.Toppers in faculty of humanities are Shweta Kumari (Hindi), Amisha Chandra (English), Prabhat Kumar (Sanskrit), Shabana Parween (Urdu), Mohammad Ashahar (Arabic), Abhilasha Kumari (philosophy), Nisha Singh (music).

While in faculty of social sciences, toppers are Nupur Sinha (history), Amisha Kumari Singh ( sociology), Sadhna (political science), Suchi Kumari (economics), Abhinav Anand ( psychology), Khushi Kumari (geography), Ankit Kumar Jha (ancient Indian history and archaeology), Sneha Bharti (home science), Sakshi Gupta (mathematics), Mohammad Intezar ( statistics).Meanwhile in faculty of science, toppers are Gulafshan Ara (physics), Aishwarya (chemistry), Raskey Jahan (botany), Ayushi Rawat (zoology), Shubham Kumar (geology), Nikhil Sharma (mathematics), Shruti Kumari (statistics).Besides, others who topped in different other faculties include Sanskriti Bhadani (commerce), Vijeta Vipra (education), Ravi Kumar (library and information science) and Gaurav Kumar (fine arts).In conventional and self-financing courses, toppers areRishikesh Ranjan (biotechnology), Aditi Kumari (computer applications), Prakshi Singh (business administration), Mrityunjay Kumar (environmental science), Riyu Bigwas (functional English), Jyoti Ranjan (mass communications) and Aprajee Barma (social work).All these toppers would be awarded gold medals at the PU’s foundation day celebrations likely to be held in the second week of October. This year, PU would not celebrate its foundation day on October 1 as it will remain closed on account of Durga Puja holidays, said university sources.
