PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry govt will accord state honours to the funeral of former judge of the Madras high court Justice David Annoussamy from Puducherry on Wednesday. Justice Annoussamy passed away due to old age-related illness on Saturday.
He was 98 and is survived by his wife and four children.
His body will be kept for public homage at his house at No 59, Laporte Street in the town from 11am to 3.30pm on Jan 21, followed by a mass at 4pm at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and burial at Uppalam cemetery.As a mark of respect to the departed judge , state honour during the funeral at Puducherry would be accorded, said under secretary (home) M V Hiran in a circular.Annoussamy, a respected legal scholar and an authority on French law and comparative jurisprudence, made invaluable contributions to the legal and academic worlds. His writings and teachings continue to inspire generations of jurists and scholars.Beyond his professional eminence, he was a passionate advocate of Francophonie and a steadfast pillar of the Alliance Française de Pondichéry. His guidance, wisdom, and moral authority greatly enriched the institution, strengthening cultural dialogue and intellectual exchange between France and India, said Alliance Française de Pondichéry president Nallam Sathish.
“With his passing, we lose not only a great jurist but also a mentor, a bridge between cultures, and a true gentleman. His legacy will remain deeply etched in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him and working with him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Francophone and legal communities. May his soul rest in peace, and may his life of service continue to inspire us,” said Nallam Sathish.
