"You Are Only Entitled to the Action, Never to Its Fruits"

Bhagavad Gita is one of the most sacred Hindu text, which is full of knowledge and teachings given by Lord Krishna. In Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 2, verse 47) there's a quote - "You Are Only Entitled to the Action, Never to Its Fruits".

This was explained by Lord Krishan to Arjuna when they were present in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Let's understand the meaning.

"You Are Only Entitled to the Action"

This half quote means you can only do your actions and you have control on your actions only. We can only do our karma, we should fulfill our duties and responsibilities. We can take the actions but the consequence are not in our hand. Now we will come to another part that talks about the results -

"You Are Only Entitled to the Action, Never to Its Fruits"

In this full quote, Lord Krishna wanted to make Arjuna understand that you have control over your actions but not on the results because if you are doing a bad karma then obviously you can can not expect something good will happen to you and similarly if you are doing something good but you can not expect anything in return.

Karma Yoga

This quote explains about the "Karma Yoga" - the yoga of selfless actions which means you are born here as a human just to fulfill your duties which are assigned to you by the universe and not to think about the result. "Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana" - Lord Krishna says that human beings have full control over their actions but they don't have control over the outcomes. If you start expecting the results then it lead you to suffering.

The peace lies in just performing your duties without expecting the results.

Detached from results

According to Lord Krishna, one should never get attached to the results and never expect the same outcome which you have in your mind because the result you are expecting that can not be the same, the result can be opposite also so in that case you become sad and feel disappointed and to save you from that Lord Krishna said not to expect anything in return, just play your part and forget that.
