Railways set to roll out new Rajdhani Express train after six-year gap – check route

Rajdhani Express train: Indian Railways (IR) is set to rollout a new Rajdhani Express train over its network. This Rajdhani Express is being introduced after a gap of six years. The last Rajdhani Express train was launched in 2019 between Mumbai CSMT and Delhi.

The country’s first Rajdhani Express train was introduced in 1969 between New Delhi and Howrah. The Rajdhani Express was launched with the aim of connecting state capitals to the national capital. Even after more than 50 years of service, the Rajdhani Express continues to be regarded as one of the premium trains in the Indian Railways network.

Indian Railways to launch new Rajdhani Express train: Route

Presently, there are 25 Rajdhani Express trains operational in the country. The new Rajdhani Express train will run between Sairang (Aizawl) and Anand Vihar Terminal (Delhi). This will be the country’s 26th Rajdhani Express train.

Sairang-Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express train

The Rajdhani Express train between Sairang and Anand Vihar Terminal (ANVT) will run thrice a week. This will give first-ever train service between Mizoram and Delhi. The Sairang-Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express is expected to cover a distance of more than 2500 km in less than 44 hours. The train will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13.

The launch of the Aizawl–Delhi Rajdhani Express has been made possible with the opening of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 51.38-km stretch on Saturday.

Bairabi-Sairang railway project

Built at a cost of about Rs 8,000 crore, the 51.38-km-long Bairabi-Sairang railway line is an engineering marvel. It consists of 48 tunnels, 55 major bridges and 87 minor bridges. The total length of tunnels in this project is 12,853 meters. The height of bridge no. 196 is 104 meter which is 42 meter taller than the Qutub Minar. The passenger trains can run at speeds of up to 100 kmph on the newly built rail line.
