As the probe into the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case progresses, the Meghalaya Police on Tuesday found a second machete, which was used for the crime.

The development came after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police brought all the accused in the murder, including Raghuvanshi’s wife Sonam, to Sohra, around 65 km from Shillong, and recreated the crime scene amid heavy security.

In a statement, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said, “We have conducted a crime scene recreation, during which the accused reenacted their actions."

“This has given us a clearer picture of what transpired. The second machete used in the murder has also been recovered by the SDRF," he said.

Raja Raghuvanshi was hacked to death in a parking lot near Weisawdong Falls, and his body was dumped in a nearby gorge in the Sohra area in the East Khasi Hills district on May 23.

The businessman and his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, were on their honeymoon when he was killed allegedly by three hitmen – Vishal, Anand and Akash – sent by Sonam’s boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, who is also one of the arrested people.

“Our team is in Indore and questioning a few people. They are trying to find out if somebody has to gain from Raja’s death," Syiem said.

To connect the dots in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, a team of Meghalaya police on Tuesday also visited a flat in Indore city where the main accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, is suspected to have hidden for a few days while on the run.

“A Meghalaya police team visited the flat in Dewas Naka area…. We have received information that after Raghuvanshi’s murder, his wife Sonam was hiding in this flat for a few days. She later went to Uttar Pradesh, where she was arrested," a local police official told PTI.

The team also visited Raghuvanshi’s house in the Sahakarnagar area and recorded statements of his family members.
