Ranchi Police Seize Over 6,000 Kg Doda, Narcotics Worth ₹9 Crore in 2025

Ranchi: Police recovered over 6,000 kg of “doda”, a dry residue of poppy pods, used as a narcotic substance, worth over Rs 9 crore during 2025. This was the highest recovery of narcotic substances under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Ranchi district, from January 1 to December 31, 2025.Releasing their report card of 2025 on Friday, the district said the force also recovered 1 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 2 crore, 22.4 kg of opium worth Rs 1.12 crore, and 119 kg of Ganja worth over Rs 59.9 lakh during the period. Moreover, the force recovered 15,003 bottles of prohibited cough syrups worth Rs 1 crore and 234 prohibited capsules worth Rs 93,600 in 2025.“The total recovery of various narcotic substances is worth over Rs 14.84 crore (14, 84, 82,690).

A total of 87 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, resulting in the arrest of 156 accused during the year,” the report card stated.Apart from this, the police destroyed 2582.67 acres of poppy cultivation in the entire year, arrested 25 accused in connection with the plantation and registered 93 cases.The force also arrested 44 individuals in connection with various organised crimes and recovered nine pistols, 52 rounds of live cartridges, eight country-made pistols, among various other arms and ammunition from the possession of the accused persons.

Further, the police arrested 137 and 21 individuals in connection with the theft of two-wheelers and four-wheelers, while 29 individuals were arrested for various snatching cases and recovered 52 mobile phones, four gold chains, nine grams of gold, nine vehicles and Rs 13,000 cash from the possession of the accused.
