Continuing its efforts to bring socially relevant themes to the stage, Rangayana has selected, as part of its ongoing repertory productions, an acclaimed play, Kaala Chakra, to be staged here on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, director of the Rangayana unit Sujata Jangamshetty said that Kaala Chakra was originally written in Marathi by playwright Jayawant Dalwi. It was later translated into Kannada by H. K. Karker.

The play to be staged here is directed by Hulugappa Kattimani, with a team of 11 artists and two technicians bringing the two-hour production to life.

“The play’s theme remains timeless, reflecting a reality that continues to exist in every generation,” Dr. Jangamshetty said.

The play will be inaugurated by MLA M.Y. Patil at the Dr. S.M. Pundit Ranga Mandir here.

Following the launch, the production will be staged at various venues across the district and the State, as part of Rangayana’s outreach programme aimed at taking meaningful theatre to wider audiences.

The play tells the story of a father who, disheartened by his family’s indifference, publishes a newspaper advertisement seeking the help of kind-hearted individuals willing to adopt elderly couples abandoned by their families.

A compassionate couple respond and take the elderly pair into their house, offering them warmth and affection far greater than what they received from their family members.

Through its poignant narrative and strong performances, Kaala Chakra delivers a powerful message about empathy and the vanishing sense of family bonding.

The play promises to move hearts, while reminding society of its enduring responsibility toward its elders.
