Rod Wave (aka Rodarius Green) was arrested in Georgia on Friday by the Atlanta Police Department, facing charges a possession of a firearm or knife during commission or attempt to commit certain felonies, reckless driving, and possession of Schedule V and II controlled substances.
However, the 27-year-old singer’s lawyers proclaim the arrest as unlawful, accusing the governmental department of following aggressive tactics rather than genuine arrests.
Rod Wave's lawyers call the arrest 'unlawful'
While it’s unclear what exactly happened that led to his arrest, Rod Wave was arrested earlier this year as well for firing off a semi-automatic pistol near his house after an altercation with realtors and other associates. Moreover, he attempted to run away from the scene as well.
However, the ‘Street Runner’ singer’s attorneys claimed that the arrest was unlawful. “The arresting officer belongs to the Atlanta Police Department’s controversial Crime Suppression Unit -- a group known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety,” the TMZ report said.
Lawyers point out the 'quota-driven approach'
Furthermore, the legal authorities highlighted that Wave was targeted because of a quota-driven approach.
Stating that the rule undermines justice, the lawyers looked forward to defending him in court. The aforementioned media outlet reported that he had his first appearance in court, where he agreed to pay a USD 8,000 bond, suggesting he will not stay behind bars for a long time. From one of his many counts, Rod Wave was also booked in Florida in the past year. While the case was not prosecuted, one count suggested the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and another was for allegedly choking his girlfriend. Born on August 27, 1998, Rod Wave is professionally known for his contributing hand in R&B and Hip Hop, along with his mastery in singing, rapping, and songwriting.
