Unseasonal rain could not prevent MI Cape Town from registering a dramatic four-wicket Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) victory over Joburg Super Kings at Newlands on Tuesday evening, as the home side finally opened their account in the competition.Chasing a revised target of 128 in a rain-curtailed 12-over contest, MI Cape Town got home with four balls to spare, much to the relief of the Newlands faithful who waited patiently through multiple weather interruptions.

The crowd was rewarded in spectacular fashion by Nicholas Pooran, who produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting. The West Indies star smashed five towering sixes in a thrilling 33, each blow bigger than the last.

The standout moment came when Pooran launched Richard Gleeson onto the top tier of the Members’ Stand — a strike that will live long in the memory. His dismissal at deep cover briefly tilted the contest, but MI Cape Town had seized the momentum.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Smith’s boundary-laden 22 off just six deliveries dragged the hosts to the brink, allowing Karim Janat to finish the job calmly.

Earlier, intermittent rain delayed the start by an hour before Joburg Super Kings were sent in to bat. JSK began briskly, with

and James Vince racing to 32 inside 2.4 overs. Vince departed for a rapid 15, but Du Plessis was in ominous touch, hammering Kagiso Rabada for four consecutive boundaries and continuing the assault against George Linde and Trent Boult.JSK stormed to 69/2 before rain intervened again, forcing a 75-minute delay and reducing the match to 12 overs per side.

The stoppage proved costly. Du Plessis fell almost immediately after the resumption for a fluent 44 off 21 balls, and MI Cape Town clawed their way back through disciplined bowling.
