Samay Raina, who’s popularly known for his comic timing, made headlines during the India’s Got Latent controversy and has now issued a public apology. The comedian apologized to people with disabilities on social media after making jokes about them on the show.
He had faced severe backlash for his remarks after clips from the show went viral.Samay Raina, who is celebrating his birthday today (October 26), is gaining attention for using the occasion to apologise for his jokes about people with disabilities. He took to his Instagram handle and shared a birthday post, writing in the caption, “Today is my birthday and instead of celebrating just myself, I want to use this day — the most special day of the year for me — to apologize to people with disabilities.”He further wrote, “We, Samay Raina, Vipul Goyal, Sonali Thakkar, Nishant Tanwar, and Balraj Ghai, deeply regret the pain caused due to our show. Going forward, we will be more mindful and do our best to spread awareness about the challenges faced by the community. Your strength inspires us to grow. With respect and gratitude, Samay, Vipul Goyal, Balraj Ghai, Sonali Thakkar, and Nishant Tanwar.”During the India’s Got Latent show, Samay made some derogatory remarks referring to a charity drive for a two-month-old baby who needed an injection priced at Rs 16 crore for a rare disease.
Following this, he faced massive criticism online, and fans called him out for his “below-the-belt remark.” Moreover, the Supreme Court also summoned him along with five social media influencers for their “insensitive jokes.
”After Samay’s apology post, fans had mixed reactions. While some appreciated his courage to admit his mistake, others felt the apology came too late. One user wrote, “At least he owned up to it that takes guts.” Another commented, “Apology accepted, but please think before joking about sensitive issues.” However, a few others remained critical, saying, “He’s only apologizing because of backlash, not because he really means it.
