Juventus moved level on points with Napoli at the top of Serie A on Saturday after a dramatic 4-3 victory over Inter Milan in the first Derby d’Italia of the season.
Both sides maintained perfect starts to the campaign as the Champions League looms next week.
A stoppage-time rocket from teenage substitute Vasilije Adzic sealed the win, lifting Juve to nine points from three matches. They trail Napoli only on goal difference after the champions swept aside Fiorentina 3-1 earlier in the day, with new signing Rasmus Hojlund getting on the scoresheet.
Adzic, who made his international debut for Montenegro in June, entered late in the match for Teun Koopmeiners and struck just minutes after Khephren Thuram had equalized for Juve in the 83rd minute.
The 19-year-old unleashed a ferocious shot from distance that slipped through the hands of Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer, sending the Allianz Stadium into raptures.
His late strike overshadowed the unique storyline of the Thuram brothers — Khephren scoring for Juventus and Marcus Thuram netting for Inter — all while their legendary father Lilian Thuram watched proudly from the stands.
The match was a showcase of attacking football and individual brilliance.
Hakan Calhanoglu twice pulled Inter level with superb long-range strikes.
Marcus Thuram then put Inter ahead 3-2 with a powerful header in the 76th minute.
Khephren Thuram’s equalizer for Juve set the stage for Adzic’s winner in stoppage time.
For Inter, the result marked a second straight loss under new coach Cristian Chivu, who replaced Simone Inzaghi this summer despite limited top-flight experience.
Hojlund Inspires Napoli
Napoli prepared for their upcoming Champions League clash at Manchester City with a commanding performance in Florence. The champions overwhelmed Fiorentina 3-1, establishing themselves as the team to beat in Italy once again.
Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 7th minute.
Rasmus Hojlund, on his debut, doubled the lead seven minutes later with a precise finish from Leonardo Spinazzola’s cross.
After halftime, Andre-Frank Anguissa’s clever play from a corner set up Sam Beukema, who tapped in Napoli’s third.
Fiorentina pulled one back through Luca Ranieri in the 79th minute, but the result was already beyond doubt.
Hojlund, whose struggles at Manchester United drew heavy criticism last season, looked rejuvenated.
“It’s a very important win today. We’ve won the first three now and want to continue like this," the Danish striker told Sky. “We have a very important game in the Champions League coming up. I’m very happy to be with this incredible team."
