Shivamogga police arrest associate professor of SIMS on charges of sexual harassment

Shivamogga Police on Friday (June 27, 2025) arrested Ashwin Hebbar, Associate Professor of Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences, accused of sexually harassing a postgraduate student.

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.

A postgraduate student, on June 20, filed a complaint with Shivamogga Women Police, accusing that Mr. Hebbar sexually harassed her during a dinner party in a hotel.

The accused had been absconding since the case was filed. He had remained absent to his duties in the institute.

Shivamogga SP G.K. Mithun Kumar had formed teams to arrest him.

Earlier in 2022, he faced similar charges.
