A video capturing chaotic scenes of commuters scrambling to collect silver ornaments on a busy highway in Uttar Pradesh has gone viral.

According to reports, a crowd gathered on the Hapur highway after a truck accidentally dropped its cargo that consisted silver ornaments.

In the video, a number of commuters can be spotted collecting the silver from the road. Many parked their motorcycles and other vehicles, causing traffic to halt for considerable time period. There were no police or traffic personnel on the spot to guide commuters or the stopped vehicles, with a stampede-like situation at hand due to a mad rush by the crowd to collect as many ornaments as possible.

The prices of silver, a precious metal, have witnessed a significant spike amid the US-Venezuela crisis. For example, on Monday, silver and gold prices recorded a sharp jump with silver trading at $75 per ounce in the international spot market.

In India, silver reached Rs 2,47,000 per kg in the spot market, while silver futures on the MCX for March expiry zoomed almost 3 percent to reach Rs 2,43,181 per kg.
