The Haryana State Commission for Women has issued a summons to singer Masoom Sharma over allegations of using abusive language and engaging in inappropriate conduct during a live performance at DAV College in Dehradun.

The Commission said it has taken serious note of the allegations, adding that such behaviour, if proven, could undermine the dignity and respect of women. The matter is being examined in the context of women’s rights and standards of public conduct.

COMMISSION SEEKS EXPLANATION

Invoking its powers under the Haryana State Commission for Women Act, 2012, the panel has directed Sharma to appear in person on April 18 at 11 am at its Panchkula office. He has been asked to submit a detailed explanation, with the Commission warning of further action in case of non-compliance.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE EVENT

According to reports, Sharma had performed at a student union cultural programme on Saturday along with singer Ajay Hooda. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also present at the event.

It is alleged that after the chief minister left, Sharma used objectionable language on stage, making police personnel, college staff and students uncomfortable. Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar reportedly tried to intervene, but the singer did not stop.

SINGER ISSUES APOLOGY

Following the controversy, Sharma released a video apology, claiming he had been under mental stress due to harassment by an unidentified individual. He expressed regret and said he did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments.

PAST CONTROVERSIES

The singer has been involved in multiple controversies earlier. In 2024, a woman accused him of assault and harassment, while in 2025, the Haryana government ordered removal of some of his songs from YouTube over allegations of promoting gun culture. A separate row had also erupted over his remarks during a live show in Jind earlier this year.
