While the star had clarified that this action would only be taken against those who are posting content in order to harm them, there were still rumors about him suing fans.

On August 16, the singer issued a statement through his management about how he will be taking legal action against people who comment and malicious content. While the legal action was specifically meant for those who have been posting disturbing comments about him and his fiancée, Koyote's Shin Ji, different rumors about it ended up spreading online.As per ChosunBiz, the idol shared and provided a clarification on August 17 about how no fans of him or his fiancée were targeted with any legal action. In the post, he stated, "Many people have misunderstandings, so I'm leaving this message. I did not sue the fans who care for Koyote's seniors and Shin Ji”.He detailed the matter, stating that the only people who had been served with the legal lawsuit were those who had been posting harmful comments and content about the couple.
Not only that, but people who kept on repeatedly sharing harmful and damaging messages to them had also been sued. He also asked people to avoid speculations and rumors.

On August 16, the idol had shared how he would be taking legal actions against those who post malicious content. As per ChosunBiz, his management agency stated that "Since the news of Moon Won's and Shin Ji's marriage became known, false information has been indiscriminately spread mainly through online communities, social media accounts”.They continued, sharing that a “criminal complaint” has been filed against such people on August 5.
