The district police office here came alive with rural traditions as police department celebrated Sankranti with enthusiasm on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh and his wife Hema Jagadeesh participated as the chief guests and inaugurated the festivities by lighting the ceremonial lamp and ‘Bhogi’ bonfire. The event showcased a range of traditional activities, including kite flying, gundata (traditional game), and ‘utti kottadam’, with the SP actively participating, drawing applause from the gathering.
The SP rode a decorated bullock cart, underscoring the festival’s deep connection with farmers and rural life. Police personnel came dressed in traditional attire instead of their usual khaki uniforms. Rangoli designs created by police families were displayed and appreciated, with prizes presented to the winners. Sweets and gifts were distributed to children by Ms. Hema Jagadeesh.
Greeting the gathering, the SP said that such cultural events provide police personnel a refreshing break from their demanding duties and help them rejuvenate. He urged the public to celebrate the festival responsibly, promoting traditional sports and staying away from prohibited activities.
