Spurned man pushes woman off house terrace in Chennai

CHENNAI: A college student, who spurned the ‘love proposal’ of a 25-year-old man, was pushed off a rooftop at Nerkundram near Maduravoyal in Chennai on Sunday. The woman sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.Police said the victim, Sharmila, is a second-year BCom student at a private college and the daughter of Balasundaram, a resident of Nerkundram. For the past two to three months, Silambarasan, a native of Ariyalur district, was following her and repeatedly expressing his love. Despite her repeated refusal, he continued to stalk her.On Sunday night, while Sharmila was on the rooftop of her house collecting clothes, the man, who was drunk, climbed onto the rooftop from an adjacent building.

In a sudden attack, he pushed her off the terrace with the intention to kill her. She suffered fractures in hip and multiple serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where she remains in the intensive care unit (ICU).Neighbours who witnessed the incident immediately intervened, apprehended the drunk man and handed him over to the Koyambedu police. Police inquiries revealed that Silambarasan had been stalking the student for several months after she rejected his advances.The police registered a case and were continuing their investigation. He was remanded in judicial custody.
