One of the most anticipated Indian films, 'Varanasi', directed by SS Rajamouli, is gearing up for a major global moment. After unveiling the film’s title and character details at a grand event in Hyderabad in November, the makers are now preparing to reveal the teaser.
What makes this move special is the chosen location — Paris — signalling the film’s international ambition and scale.
A teaser launch on a global stage
In a first for Indian cinema, 'Varanasi’s announcement teaser will be screened at the legendary Le Grand Rex theatre in Paris, according to 123Telugu. The event is scheduled to take place on January 5, 2026, at 9 pm local time. The special screening will be hosted by French distributor Aanna Films. Le Grand Rex is one of Europe’s most iconic theatres, and by launching the teaser there, the makers aim to place Indian storytelling firmly on the global stage.
Scale, budget, and technical ambition
As per reports, the film is being mounted on a massive budget of approximately ₹1,300 crore. The makers plan to shoot the Varanasi sequences entirely in IMAX format. Additionally, the film will be released in multiple languages to cater to audiences across international markets. Varanasi is slated for a theatrical release on April 9, 2027, coinciding with Sri Rama Navami.
Cast and creative forces behind ‘Varanasi’
SS Rajamouli reunites with his long-time collaborators for the project. The film’s music is composed by Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani, while the story and screenplay have been penned by veteran writer Vijayendra Prasad. The action-adventure spectacle stars Mahesh Babu in a double role, with Priyanka Chopra and
