Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) will provide around six acres on its main campus at Kalady to the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) for setting up a first-class cricket ground along with allied infrastructure and facilities.

A Syndicate meeting held on Friday (December 19) discussed the revised master plan for the project ahead of signing a memorandum of understanding with the KCA. K.S. Arun Kumar, Syndicate member, said the cricketing body would have the right to use the six-acre land for developing the stadium and allied infrastructure. He added that the total cost of the project was expected to be around ₹55 crore. The KCA leadership was not available for comment.

The agreement is for a period of 33 years. According to the draft agreement, the KCA will develop/construct multi-sports facilities, including a football ground with an athletic track (400-m synthetic track). It will construct and hand over a sports hostel to the university. The KCA will have to meet the cost and expenses incurred towards developing cricket facilities, which include a first-class cricket ground, turf pitches, an office room, players’ and official pavilions, sight screens, camera towers, and indoor and outdoor practice facilities.

Mr. Kumar said the facility would accommodate around 100 students. A seven-member managing committee will be in control of the affairs of the cricket facilities and scheduled premises. It will include four members representing the university, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor and three members nominated by the KCA.
