The stray dog issue has resurfaced in Tamil Nadu and other regions of India. The Supreme Court's order to control stray dogs and house them in sanctuaries has sparked a huge debate. As an extension of this, there was an open discussion on the issue of stray dogs on a popular Tamil television show.
But some people who spoke in support of stray dogs on that show, taking the resulting risks for granted, have sparked strong reactions on social media.
Netizens share their opinion
Meanwhile, netizens have questioned the fact that many who insist that stray dogs should not be removed have never spoken out against the forcible eviction of the indigenous people of Chennai city. Those who were silent during incidents against the right to life of humans are now criticizing the kindness shown to stray dogs.
This has further intensified the debate.
We can kill it, if..., says Kamal Haasan
In this context, a dialogue from Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan's film Aalavandhan is going viral on social media. In the film, Kamal says, "How can I kill the dog I raised myself... But if that dog gets mad, we can kill it," the video is being shared online. Citing this, netizens are praising Kamal Haasan for raising awareness about the problem of stray dogs many years ago. That verse has now become a key figure in social debate, a symbol that illustrates the complex nature of the stray dog problem.
Kamal Haasan voices out for donkeys
Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan has spoken about the stray dog issue, while addressing the press and media at the Chennai airport. "The solution is very simple. Did anyone regret the fact that the donkey that carried our burden disappeared today? Did anyone speak up to save it? It is not right to insist on the principle of saving all lives only in the case of stray dogs,” said actor and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan.
