A 27-year-old postgraduate student in the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) was found dead on Tuesday.
Some students found the body of Priya Karthik in her hostel room.
She hailed from Bengaluru. She was on duty on Monday evening. She returned to her room at night after duty. She seemed normal, one of her friends told the police.
BIMS director Ashok Kumar Shetty, who visited the emergency department, told reporters that Priya was receiving medical treatment for mental depression.
However, details of the cause of death will be known after the post-mortem, Dr. Shetty said.
A case has been registered.
