Sub-inspector arrested for accepting bribe in Nawada

In a striking development from Nawada district's Akbarpur police station, a sub-inspector identified as Pramod Kumar was collared by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs25,000. This unscrupulous officer purportedly sought the funds to shield certain individuals from arrest and falsify case files.

Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau’s (VIB) team on Friday arrested sub-inspector (SI) Pramod Kumar of Akbarpur police station in Nawada district for accepting a bribe of Rs25,000.The accused was apprehended at the Akbarpur police station gate. The SI allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for not arresting an accused in connection with a case and for providing favourable treatment in the case diary.According to an official statement issued by the VIB, “A complaint was lodged at the VIB headquarters in Patna by Vikash Kumar, a resident of Nawada, on Friday, alleging that the accused SI was demanding a bribe in exchange for not arresting his brother-in-law and nephew in connection with a case registered in Nawada in 2025 and for providing favourable treatment in the case diary.”The VIB verified the complaint and found evidence of the bribe demand. A team led by Vigilance DSP Goutam Krishna was formed to take action, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.“The accused will be produced before the special court, vigilance, Patna, after interrogation. Further investigation is underway,” the VIB statement added.The vigilance registered its second FIR against corruption in 2026. This was the first trap-related case, in which a case was registered.
