Starting Sunday, the Rapadi open air auditorium in Palakkad town will host an 11-day cultural extravaganza featuring dance and music performances by artistes from across the country.
The programme, titled Swaralaya Samanwayam 2025, is being organised by Swaralaya Palakkad in collaboration with the South Zone Cultural Centre, the State and Central Departments of Culture and Tourism, the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy, and Soorya Thiruvananthapuram.
The programme will feature a variety of performances, including classical Carnatic and Hindustani concerts, dance and music shows of different genres, youth-oriented music bands, fusion music and dance.
Minister for Excise M.B. Rajesh will inaugurate the festivities on Sunday evening. Fifty singers of Swaralaya will sing a welcome song written by Murali S. Kumar.
Grammy award winner L. Shenkar will lead a double violin and vocal music concert on the inaugural day. He will be accompanied by Anirudha S. Bhatt on mrudangam and Manjunath Sathyasheel on rhythm pad.
Achievers from various fields of life, including Dr. Shenkar, Sidheeque Ahmed, P. Krishnadas, K.S. Mani and Raju Subramanian, will be felicitated at the inaugural function.
Minister for Power K. Krishnankutty will inaugurate the Christmas celebrations on Thursday. Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy chairman Mattannur Sankarankutty will be the chief guest.
Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian will inaugurate the valedictory function on December 31.
Apart from Dr. Shenkar, the artistes who will present programmes on different days include playback singer Anitha Shaiq; classical singers Kalapni Konkali, Nityashree Mahadevan, Ustad Rafique Khan and Pandit Shailesh Bhagavat; Bharatanatyam dancers Aswathy and Srikant, Rama Vaidyanathan, Krishna P. Unni, Kirthi Ramgopal and Gopika Raj Pillai; Kuchipudi dancer Sreelakshmi Govardhan; Mohiniyattom dancers Sunanda Nair and Gyatri Govind; Odissi dancer Sharmila Mukherjee; and classical singers Trivandrum Krishnakumar and Binni Krishnakumar.
