Parts of coastal areas of Kerala are likely to experience the Kallakkadal phenomenon – a sudden swell of the sea causing rough waves – from 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday to 11.30 p.m. on Thursday.
According to a bulletin issued by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Systems on Wednesday, there is a possibility of sea erosion due to swell waves of 0.4 to 0.6 metres high on the coasts of Kollam and Alappuzha districts.
Along the Kanyakumari coast, the waves could be 0.6 to 0.8 metres high due to the swell surge from 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday to 11.30 p.m. on Thursday as part of the phenomenon. Fishermen and coastal population have been urged to be on alert.
