The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee will celebrate the birth anniversary of former Congress Chief Minister K. Kamaraj between July 13 and 19, focussing on his “clean, corruption-free administration” and his simple lifestyle, TNCC leader S. Peter Alphonse said on Monday (July 6, 2026).
After participating at the party’s State executive council meeting in Chennai, he said the Congress would organise a public rally on July 15 in Gudiyatham where Kamaraj contested in the election first and became an MLA.
Public rally in Madurai
“TNCC president Manickam Tagore will raise the slogan, ‘Reject bribes, hold your head high’, standing in front of Kamarajar’s house at Virudhunagar on the morning of July 15. The TNCC will place placards against bribery at public places for members of the public to stamp their imprint. The Congress will also organise a public rally in Madurai on July 19,” he said.
Mr. Alphonse underscored the need for turning the sentiment against bribery into a people’s movement. “It will not be enough for the Chief Minister or the State government alone to be free of corruption. The sentiment has to become a people’s movement. We will continue this campaign.”
It is TVK’s decision, says Tagore
Mr. Tagore, who presided over the meeting, said the decision to induct former AIADMK MLAs C. Vijayabaskar and M.R. Vijayabhaskar, who are facing corruption charges, into the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was taken by the ruling party itself.
“There are cases still pending in court. If the courts pass any judgment, we will talk about it. These are decisions taken by the respective parties. We are very courteous as an alliance partner. We will only express our opinions to our allies at the appropriate forum,” he said.
