A technical snag was reported at the lift pumping centre of the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project’s main canal at Ragulapadu villagein Vajrakarur mandal of the district on Friday, partially affecting pumping operations.
Project officials said nine motors were deployed to pump water to the uplands, given the vast stretch of the area. Of these, five repeatedly tripped due to a technical fault, forcing engineers to continue operations with only four functional motors. The reduced pumping activity led to a gradual rise in the water level in the main canal.
To prevent the motor pumps from being submerged, project engineers released excess water through the escape channel at Chayapuram village as a precaution. The canal is currently carrying a flow of around 2,000 cusecs.
Officials informed the district administration that technical experts are expected to reach the site by Sunday morning to resolve the issue.
