The Roads and Buildings Department has invited bids to construct a solar-panel roof over the parking area at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat.
The Secretariat complex includes parking for 650 cars and 500 two-wheelers and was built over more than two years at a cost of ₹616 crore.
According to the tender notice issued on October 31, the proposed canopy will shield vehicles from extreme weather while generating power through an integrated solar photovoltaic system. The project is to be completed within six months from the start date.
The project, to be executed under a lump-sum contract, will include civil, structural, electrical and sanitary works. Civil construction accounts for ₹13.55 crore while electrical works, including the rooftop solar system, are valued at ₹3.04 crore. Water supply, sanitary and road safety-related works form the remaining share of the project cost.
As per the tender document, eligible contractors registered with the government of Telangana can submit bids through the State’s e-procurement platform till November 20. Technical bids will be opened on the same date and be followed by financial bids on November 24.
