An elephant has reportedly trampled three people to death at Benisagar Lake alongside the Jharkhand-Odisha border in the West Singhbhum district, said the police on Saturday.

They said that the animal crushed one youth to death and lifted another before dragging him into the nearby forest. The dead body of the man was later found. Meanwhile, a third person who was critically injured was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.

Meanwhile, panic has gripped the locals, prompting forest officials to issue alerts. They have urged people in bordering areas to remain cautious.

All the deceased are reportedly from Jharkhand, even though their identities are yet to be established. Forest officials are monitoring the situation to further prevent casualties.
