As the Namma Metro’s Yellow Line gains more traction even with the limited number of trains available, Member of Parliament (MP) of Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya, on Monday, said that Titagarh Rail Systems is ready to deliver eight trains by September 30, but the timely delivery of train sets depends on the immediate supply of bogies from China.
Taking to his social media account on X, he said: “I had a detailed conversation with the MD of Titagarh on the speedy supply of more trains for the Yellow Line Metro. He informed me they are ready to deliver up to 8 trains by 30th September; that all other materials are ready except the bogies, which CRRC must bring from China. The only practical solution is for CRRC to airfreight 2 trains’ worth of bogies. If shipped by sea, delivery will slip by 30–45 days, causing further delays which are avoidable.”
“I have already asked BMRCL officials to press CRRC, making it clear that the cost of delay will far exceed the cost of airfreight. I urge DCM D.K. Shivakumar and BMRCL to act immediately do what is needed to for air-freighting the materials. Timely delivery will not only save money but also ease commuter life and generate additional revenue. Delay, on the other hand, will only add to costs,” he added.
When contacted, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) officials said they did not have any official information regarding this.
The Yellow Line, which connects to Electronics City, was inaugurated on August 10. At present, it operates with only three trains, leading to a frequency of 25 minutes, causing inconvenience to commuters.
