Trinamool MP Yusuf Pathan’s recent visit to the Adina Mosque in West Bengal sparked several online reactions, with the BJP pointing out that the mosque was constructed on the site of the historic Adinath Temple.

The Adina Mosque, constructed in the 14th century by Sultan Sikandar Shah of the Ilyas Shahi dynasty, has long been at the centre of controversy due to claims that it was built on the site of a Hindu temple.

“The Adina Mosque in Malda, West Bengal, is a historic mosque built in the 14th century by Sultan Sikandar Shah, the second ruler of the Ilyas Shahi dynasty. Constructed in 1373-1375 CE, it was the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent during its time, showcasing the region’s architectural grandeur," wrote Pathan in an X post.

The Bengal BJP’s official X handle quickly responded to the post, saying, “Correction: Adinath Temple."

Several online users joined the fact-checking campaign and corrected Pathan, referring to the mosque as the “Adinath Temple."

An X user pointed out that the Adinath Temple was one of the largest Hindu temples in the country, which was later “desecrated" by the invaders.

“Yusuf Pathan, you are standing in the campus of one of the largest Hindu Temples, Adinath Temple, which was desecrated and occupied by Islamic invaders. Attached are some images for your reference."

Another user shared an image of a carving on the Adina Mosque’s wall and wrote, “Behold this striking image from the walls of the Adina Mosque in Malda! This intricate carving, possibly depicting a figure reminiscent of Lord Ganesha, raises profound questions about the site’s history."
