The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to release a film titled “Lokkhi Elo Ghore." The film has been directed by TMC MLA and filmmaker Raj Chakraborty. The film depicts the story of an innocent young widow from a rural background and shows how her life changes after receiving assistance through various state government welfare schemes.

A director’s cut preview of Lokkhi Elo Ghore was screened at Nandan on 14 January. The screening was attended by TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who is also said to be the brain behind the idea, along with the film’s cast and crew, party leaders, and members of the intelligentsia.

The film is approximately one hour long. After watching it, Abhishek Banerjee said that the documentary would be shown in households across Bengal so that people become aware of state government schemes, many of which beneficiaries are not fully informed about. He said the film highlights seven to eight such schemes, while noting that there are several others as well.

He also referred to the performances in the film, particularly the role played by Subhashree, portraying a poor widow, to underline how many eligible beneficiaries remain unaware of welfare schemes. Drawing parallels with the characters of Lokkhi, a widow, and Mangala, her village sister-in-law, he said the state government has changed the lives of lakhs of people through these programmes.

Several flagship schemes of the Mamata Banerjee government, including Kanyashree (for the education and empowerment of girls) and Rupashree (to discourage child marriage), have been showcased in the film.

Party sources told News18 that the film will be released on YouTube and screened during TMC programmes in villages.

Earlier, the TMC had released a publication titled “Unnayaner Panchali", which party leaders have been distributing widely.

The BJP, however, has dismissed the initiative, stating that such films will have no impact and that people have already made up their minds.
