Tourism Dept. invites applications for setting up homestays in tribal areas

The Tourism Department has invited applications to set up homestays in tribal villages under the Central government’s project – Development of Homestays in Tribal Areas. The Ministry of Tourism has taken up this project as part of the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA).

In a press release, Shivamogga district administration, on Sunday, said that the beneficiaries selected under this project get a subsidy of upto ₹5 lakh per project. In Shivamogga district, Virupinakoppa of Muddinakoppa gram panchayat and Sadashivapura of B. Beeranahalli panchayat have been selected for the project. The beneficiaries get up to ₹5 lakh to set up homestays and up to ₹3 lakh for renovation.

The Union Cabinet approved the PMJUGA on September 18, 2024. Under this mission, the Ministry of Tourism proposed development of tribal homes. It proposes to develop 1,000 homestays in the country. The objective of the scheme is to promote responsible tourism and enhance livelihood opportunities for tribal communities.

The people who are interested in availing of the benefits of the scheme can submit applications before August 11, along with documents, including a caste certificate, Aadhar card, house documents, photo, and no-objection certificate from the gram panchayat.
