Two cousins from Shikohabad in Firozabad district ended their lives by stepping in front of a moving train while holding hands. The victims were identified as Rashmi Yadav, 18, a Class 12 student, and her younger cousin Muskan, 17, a Class 11 student, residents of Jebda in the Thana Makkhanpur area of Uttar Pradesh.
Reports suggest that the sisters left home around 10:30 am on Tuesday after getting upset over an unknown matter. At the time of the incident, the Netaji Express was en route from Kalka to Howrah.
Train Driver Unable To Stop Despite Repeated Horns
Despite repeated horn warnings from the loco pilot, the sisters remained on the track and died instantly. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) later reached the spot and sent the bodies to a medical college for postmortem. Their identities were confirmed after the GRP team questioned Rashmi’s brother, Mohit Yadav.
According to a report in Amar Ujala, GRP Shikohabad outpost in charge Harish Kumar Yadav stated that the two sisters had left home in anger before they were hit by a train near kilometre marker 1222/12-10 on the down track. The incident took place close to the Makhanpur railway yard, which is just 4 kilometres from their home. The collision was so severe that their bodies were torn into pieces, and the train stopped for close to ten minutes after the accident.
Family Refuses To Reveal Reason Behind ‘Suicide’
Despite the tragic accident, police claimed that the family has not been cooperating with the investigation, as they are refusing to share details about the argument or the reason behind the sisters’ decision to leave the house to commit suicide.
Mohit Yadav shared that the sisters had left home and had told the family they were going to the market to buy some books. According to Rashmi’s brother, he had no idea why they ended up on the railway track and claimed that nothing upsetting had happened at home before they left.
Apart from Rashmi, Muskan and Mohit, the family has two other daughters. Muskan was the eldest among all the siblings. Following the sudden tragedy, not just the family is upset, but the entire village is mourning the loss of the two sisters.
