Trainees from different countries to undergo training in sericulture at CSRTI in Mysuru

A total of 30 trainees from eight different countries will undergo training in mulberry silkworm rearing at the Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSRTI) in Mysuru from September 3 to 30.

A statement from the CSRTI director said the trainees from Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, the Philippines, Cuba, Tanzania, Uganda, and Thailand will be exposed to the latest technologies developed by CSRTI, an institute under the Central Silk Board (CSB), during the training programme on “Sericulture and Silk Industry”.

The training programme had been sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, under the Indian Technical and Economic Co-operation (ITEC) programme.

The trainees from foreign countries will be meeting progressive sericulture farmers and visiting allied sectors of sericulture in and around Mysuru during the four-week-long programme.

CSRTI, a pioneer sericulture research institute under CSB, is involved in research and development of technologies to increase productivity and improve the quality of silk produced in the country. The institute conducts training programmes on different aspects of sericulture for Indian as well as international trainees.

Through the four-week-long programme, CSRTI seeks to provide assistance in introducing and developing sericulture activities in Third World countries, generate skilled manpower in the field of sericulture, impart training in extension management and transfer of technology, impart training in post cocoon technology and to enlighten the successful model of commercial sericulture practice for replication in other developed countries, a statement said.

Member secretary of CSB P. Sivakumar, who is also the secretary general of the International Sericultural Commission, Bengaluru, will inaugurate the training programme on September 3.
