Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh inaugurated Sankalpa, a centre to train aspirants for competitive examinations, in Davangere on Sunday.

The centre has been established jointly by Davangere University, SS Care Trust and IAS Baba.

The inaugural event was organised at BIET College auditorium.

Effective time management and continuous learning are crucial for success. Students must develop consistent habits of reading books and newspapers in libraries, Ms. Rajneesh said.

“It is estimated that we get an average of 65,000 thoughts daily. Among this flood of thoughts, it is important to maintain positivity. Aspirants should focus their thoughts on their goals whilst making daily commitments. Strong values and ethical judgement are fundamental, as interviewers can identify candidates with inappropriate motivations,” she said.

“Success requires dedication and comprehensive general knowledge, targeting scores above 70%. In order to function properly as a civil servant, it is essential to develop the skill of comprehensive understanding across diverse subjects and decision-making,” she said.

She said that organised study in the library, systematic notes-taking and revision are essential to face any examination.

“Independent thinking produces superior examination outcomes. Knowledge of current affairs is crucial,” she said.

She hoped Sankalpa will produce candidates who can succeed in examinations like UPSC.

District in-charge Minister SS Mallikarjun said that the focus of SS Care Trust is on supporting students from disadvantaged communities.

He also said that the trust’s resource persons are addressing concerns about artificial intelligence’s impact on employment and focusing on job creation in developing nations. The trust has increased the budget for dialysis services to ₹25 crore from ₹10 crore, he said.

MP Prabha Mallikarjun said that Sankalpa has been established following requests during the 2023 Assembly elections and subsequent library visits by candidates.

Deputy Commissioner G.M. Gangadharaswamy, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat Gitte Madhav Vitthal Rao, Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth, Davangere University Vice-Chancellor B.D. Kumbar and IAS Baba founder S. Mohan Kumar were present at the event.
