Vizianagaram Deputy Transport Commissioner D. Mani Kumar has directed all driving schools to adhere to the norms of the department and ensure proper training for driving licence applicants.
Speaking to The Hindu on Tuesday, he said that the department had cancelled licences of nine out of the 22 driving schools in the district as they had failed to follow norms and comply with the procedures set by the department. He added that the driving schools should have adequate infrastructure and facilities in the premises to train applicants effectively in road safety, and traffic rules and regulations.
“Many schools do not have proper addresses or designated premises. The so-called instructors make learns drive vehicles for a short period of time and force them to apply for licences immediately. It is a wrong approach. Every applicant must first learn all the important points of driving and safety before they apply for a licence,” he said.
Mr.Mani Kumar added that temporary licences are being issued only after the candidate passes the test. “The test carries 20 questions, radomly selected from a pool of 200 questions. Applicants must score at least 12 marks out of the 20 questions to qualify for a learner’s licence. That is why, they are advised to prepare throughly for the LLR test,” he said.
