Social justice and uplift of marginalised sections of society will be the key focus of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s manifesto for the upcoming Assembly election in Tamil Nadu, said the party’s general secretary (policy and propaganda), K.G. Arunraaj, on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the first meeting of the 12-member election manifesto drafting committee at the party headquarters in Panaiyur on the outskirts of Chennai, Mr. Arunraaj said the panel would tour zone-wise to elicit the views of various sections, including trade unions, associations and other organisations.

He said party president Vijay had instructed the committee to undertake its task with a broad vision, which would reflect the party’s ‘secular social justice ideologies’ and focus on the needs of marginalised sections.

Responding to a question on Governor R.N. Ravi’s walkout from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly without delivering his customary address to the House, Mr. Arunraaj said, “Since this has become a norm over the past few years, there is a strong suspicion as to whether both the government and the Governor are colluding and doing this repeatedly.”
