VARANASI: A 32-year-old man died on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment after he and his wife were allegedly attacked over a family property dispute in Amilo village, under Mubarakpur police station in Azamgarh district.The incident took place on Tuesday night, and police have taken five people into custody for questioning. The victims have been identified as Mohammad Tahir and his wife, Shabana Khatoon.According to police, the couple was allegedly assaulted by family members at around 11.30 pm over a property dispute. The accused include Mohammad Aamir, Kasif Kamar, Mohammad Saleem, Rehana Khatoon, Naseema Bano, and Tahir’s brother-in-law, Danish, among others.The couple sustained serious injuries to their hands, legs and head and were admitted to Azamgarh district hospital, where Mohammad Tahir died during treatment on Wednesday morning.Police said Shabana Khatoon had previously filed a dowry harassment case against her in-laws. Following this, Mohammad Tahir was reportedly dispossessed of the family property by his father. A dispute over the property between the two sides is said to have triggered the assault.CO Sadar Astha Jaiswal said Mubarakpur police have taken five people into custody and are questioning them. Further legal proceedings will follow once a formal complaint is filed.
